1/ Pet Grooming Business

📍 Location: Central Texas
💼 EBITDA: $300,000
📊 Revenue: $330,000
📅 Established: 2004

💭 My 2 Cents: Pet grooming is one of those simple yet durable, high margin small business models. The overhead is low (you just need a facility and a few workstations, shampoo, dryers, and clippers) and customers come back like clockwork every 4-8 weeks. This pet grooming business is no exception, and it has the added benefit of being the only grooming option in a close-knit town of roughly 2,500 residents, as well as drawing steady traffic from a nearby growing city of about 100,000 people. The business has operated for over two decades, built entirely through word-of-mouth and a simple Facebook presence, which suggests meaningful upside for a buyer who introduces online booking, email reminders, or targeted advertising. Another positive is the owner would like to sell the facility with the business, which would add long-term stability. That said, I’d want to understand how much of the $300K EBITDA reflects true owner profit versus what it would cost to replace the owner’s wife (who runs daily operations) and dig into their approach to recruiting, training, and retaining groomers. Ultimately, as pet ownership and household spending on pet care continue to rise, this business should continue to thrive.

2/ Experiential Marketing and Promotions Agency

📍 Location: Southern California
💼 EBITDA: $2,500,000
📊 Revenue: $9,500,000
📅 Established: 2008

💭 My 2 Cents: Experiential marketing sits at the intersection of creativity and logistics, and few agencies manage to scale it as profitably as this one. Based in Los Angeles, this firm has spent over 15 years executing large-scale brand activations, pop-up experiences, and promotional campaigns that blend physical events with digital engagement. What stands out is the operational maturity: three semi-retired partners have delegated day-to-day execution to a seasoned management team and roughly 25 full-time employees, suggesting the business runs smoothly without heavy owner dependence. About 80% of clients are in California, where consumer brands and entertainment companies consistently pour money into live experiences, while the remaining 20% are national accounts that could expand further with a focused sales effort. Growth has been steady, fueled by organic search visibility, inbound leads, and strong industry reputation rather than outbound selling, which points to untapped upside through formal business development and deeper relationships with national retailers or agencies. I’d want to understand the mix between recurring contracts and project-based work, assess customer concentration among large accounts, and dig into the lifetime value of a typical client given the repeat nature of brand campaigns. Overall, the business is well positioned to capitalize on the steady rebound in live events and the growing share of marketing budgets shifting toward experiential and influencer-driven activations.

3/ Specialty Automotive and Transmission Repair Shop

📍 Location: Upstate New York
💼 EBITDA: $450,000
📊 Revenue: $1,300,000
📅 Established: 1991

💭 My 2 Cents: Transmission repair is one of those niche automotive segments that combines steady demand with high technical barriers, and this shop has carved out a profitable position in it. They focus exclusively on rebuilding and replacing transmissions, a specialization that commands higher margins and limits direct competition from general repair shops. Founded over three decades ago and acquired by the current owner in 2015, it’s now fully absentee-run with a full-time manager, assistant, and four experienced technicians handling day-to-day operations. The owner, who works in corporate M&A, visits just twice a week, which highlights the strength of the existing team and systems. What’s most notable is the growth achieved entirely through word of mouth and repeat business, without any paid marketing or formal partnerships. That suggests meaningful upside through basic digital presence, local advertising, or fleet service contracts with regional businesses. I’d want to understand the average repair ticket size, technician retention and training, and whether the facility is at capacity or could support additional volume. With steady demand driven by rising vehicle repair costs, aging cars on the road, and the scarcity of transmission specialists, this shop offers a rare mix of stability, specialization, and hands-off ownership in a durable segment of the automotive aftermarket.
